What Makes the Perfect Packed Lunch on National Sandwich Day?

National Sandwich Day is fast approaching! It's 3 November in fact! So what would make the perfect packed lunch for you on National Sandwich day?

Traditional Egg Salad
Would the filling be a traditional cheese and pickle, egg and cress, or maybe a modern twist on a classic like roast beef with caramelised onion chutney?

Tex Mex Chicken wrap

Or for those wanting a bit of a kick, maybe the Tex Mex Chicken wrap, or for the vegetarian lovers, how about a bagel topped with cream cheese with sliced roasted red peppers layered on a bed of rocket?

And what about the bread element?  Would you select traditional bread, or maybe ciabatta, a bagel or some other type of roll or wrap?

Sandwich Thin filled with chicken salad

What would make it that extra special sandwich for you?
Would it be a closed sandwich or could it be open?

JARLSBERGĀ® with creme fraichee, serrano ham, pear and thyme
Jarlsberg, the Norwegian cheese, that's made to a secret recipe, has been in contact with us to share their latest lunchtime ideas. And when you see the recipe ideas, we are only limited by our imagination!  Keep checking back on the blog as we share some of the lovely recipes with you.

As you know, here at Lunchbox Towers, we are always on the look out for interesting lunch ideas, always lingering in the "food-to-go" sections at the supermarkets, in cafes, at street vendors, at the airport, even yesterday on the ferry back from Germany... Always looking out for the latest trends, latest filling ideas, learning what's new in the world of the humble sandwich.

And what's more, each year in May there are the Annual Sammies, the sandwich awards, where budding foodie designers enter heats, to then compete in the final for their chance to win the accolade of becoming "Sandwich Designer of the Year".  The winner can then proudly display the trophy in their sandwich shop window for all to see.

In 2015, the "Sandwich Designer of the Year" award was won by Ben Sibbald, from "Made By Ben" in Bath who created the amazing sandwich entitled "Norseland Applewood". It's basically Applewood cheese with caramelised onion chutney on top of a red onion and rosemary foccacia. Ben's aim here was to create a sweet sandwich that would go brilliantly with a hot chocolate.

Now what's really interesting here is that he's a former dancer for the Moulin Rouge, but decided to switch careers and open a sandwich bar in Bath. Ben's sandwich bar has now become one of the best known artisan sandwich shops in the UK.
If you feel you have what it takes to enter the Sammies for 2016, do checkout the www.sandwich.org website for more information.
